Formby Golf Club is a charming links course perfectly situated between the seaside of St Annes and city of Liverpool. The links is located on a Site of Specific Scientific Interest, where the natural fauna is in a uniquely preserved condition. The course is surrounded by huge pine trees are creating a special heathland atmosphere. Formby is a relatively difficult course to play having regarded its distinctive bunkering strategy.
History:
The history of Formby dates back to a century ago. The original 18 hole course was redesigned by the well known Willie Park. The course was going through some minor changes in 1920’s and 1930’s by James Braid and Messrs Hawtree & Taylor. Later on the structure of the course was changed because of the Liverpool construction affecting the flow of the river Mersey. Therefore the shoreline near the 8th and the 9th greens went through significant erosion. As a consequence, some holes were redesigned, trees were planted and bunkers have been created. In the late nineties the course was extended to the length of 7028 yards. More recently a larger practice ground was added to the site near to the 14th hole course.
Quotes :
Bernard Darwin has perfectly highlighted the unique feature of the course. In his book The Golf Courses of the British Isles he wrote: “The greens are beautifully green; they are likewise very true and keen enough, without ever being bare and hard. The lies, too are excellent, and it is altogether one of those courses where the player’s fate is entirely in his own hands. If he plays well everything will conspire to help him on his way, but he has got to play very well – good, sterling, honest golf: there is no mistake about that at Formby.”

"I'm so glad I signed up with Scotland for Golf while visiting St. Andrews. David, my instructor, was professional, attentive, and an excellent communicator. The facilities at their establishment were top notch. Since coming back home I can already see improvements in my golf game. Highly recommended for locals and tourists alike."
